Google Introduces +1

Earlier this week Google announced it is launching a new feature called “+1”, which is very similar to Facebook’s “Like” button and Digg’s voting system.

Google describe this new feature as “The +1 button is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.” Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1’s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.”

Google is making a push towards a more social search engine following on from their increasing inclusion of tweets in search results. Google Social Search integrates Twitter, Flikr and Quora throughout the search engine.

Webmasters will be able to add the +1 button to their websites which will be displayed as an icon similar to the “ReTweet” and “Like” buttons on the left of this article.
