Generate conference roundup

Fasthosts attended Generate London 2016 on October 22nd and 23rd. Presented by net magazine and Creative Bloq, and held at the prestigious venue of the Royal Institution, the conference delivered a great experience for web designers and developers. With a range of expert speakers offering advice and insights from the cutting edge of the industry, it was a highly informative and engaging event.

Usability and accessibility were strong themes throughout the conference, both in terms of website users and the designers themselves. Many of the speakers emphasised how web design needs to expand and evolve on an international level to capture a whole new generation of creative minds.

On Thursday 22nd, Opera spokesman Bruce Lawson kicked off proceedings with a look at the challenge of building sites for users in emerging economies – a thought echoed on Friday 23rd by Google Chrome UX designer Rachel Ilan Simpson, with her session titled ‘Designing for our next billion users’.

Later on Thursday, Ida Aalen gave an overview of how UX design needs to be tested against real people to ensure the designer’s envisioned user experience becomes a reality – even going as far as taking designs onto the street to get candid feedback from the public.

Friday morning saw Booking.com’s Michel Ferreira continue on this theme, examining ‘The science of good design’ and focusing on how very specific A/B testing can pinpoint essential web design decisions.
