Fasthosts runners win the corporate challenge in Gloucester 10k

On Sunday 13th July, when most Fasthosts employees were still in bed – 13 of our most enthusiastic runners were lining up at the starting line for the Gloucester 10K. Taking in a new route around the city of Gloucester, the race offered runners views of the cathedral, the canal and docks, showcasing development around the city, inspiring community spirit and encouraging participants to take pride in their city.

Wearing official Fasthosts blue running tops sourced through Gloucester Sports, the Fasthosts teams all did fantastically and we’re so proud of them for winning the corporate challenge! Congratulations to everyone who entered. Everybody made an absolutely superb effort with some outstanding times including Paul Holt who crossed the line first in 43:15, then Steve Marshall, Josh Smith, and Chris James making up the winning times.

Not so long ago the Gloucester Citizen ran a campaign, calling residents attention to the uncertainty surrounding the Gloucester 10k, following the pulling out of the previous commercial sponsors. The citizen asked if any locals wanted to take up the challenge and organise the race instead. Luckily for all those who enjoyed this weekend’s race – Nigel Tillott of Davies and Partners Solicitors stepped forward and took charge of organising the race, arranging funding and injecting new life and enthusiasm into the event.

Tillott chose to change the previous route to make the most of the local area. Speaking of the race he said “I had several aims, the most important of these being to showcase Gloucester, involve the community and lower the entrance cost to encourage participation and ensure there would be no barriers to entry”

“The city lacks self-confidence and is always unduly compared to Cheltenham, it’s time we were proud of what we are and what we can do.” Tillott hopes this weekend’s race will become a legacy to improve upon year on year and with any profits made going to Gloucestershire based charities, everyone’s a winner!

We’re proud to be a successful Gloucester based business with plenty of home grown talent, if you’d be interested in joining us and working for a company that cares about its local community, check out our latest vacancies!
