London Bus and dot London domain name at Internet world 2014

Internet World 2014

Last week we were thrilled to be invited to help man stand #IW530 with London & Partners at Internet World 2014, held at the ExCel in London. We were lucky enough to attend on the 18th June, right in the midst of London Technology Week, where we were able to meet some of our current customers and various IT professionals.

The vast majority of our day was spent discussing the benefit of geographical domain names such as .UK, regional top level domain names and in particular the new .London extension, available from Fasthosts. We’re still polling opinions so if you’d like the chance to have your say, please visit our quick one minute survey, now:

Whilst there we even managed to take a little time out to immerse ourselves in a few of the scheduled activities such as business knowledge sharing, seminars and listened to the live pitches given.

Fasthosts’ prize draw

In addition to this, we also ran a prize draw for those who stopped by our stand to discuss the new .London domain. Towards the end of the day, one person was randomly selected to win a gourmet Fortnum & Mason (F&M) hamper containing an abundance of popular F&M goodies. The lucky winner was Jordanna from The Royal Parks Foundation, a charity which tirelessly works to raise funds and awareness of the Royal Parks in London, so that millions of Londoners and tourists can visit the park for free every year.

.London domain

The idea of Dot London domain extensions was conceived in 2012, London & Partners seized the opportunity to push for an extension which would ensure that London remained at the forefront of all things digital. As of February this year, London is the first global city to have its own domain, bringing status and credibility to all those lucky enough to apply and secure one. The extension is exclusively for Londoners. As such, priority is given to people and businesses located in London before the extensions become available to those outside.

If you’re asking what it could do for you? It could…

  1. Build your brand’s national and international reputation
  2. Grow your London customer base
  3. Boost confidence in your business
  4. Highlight you with a short, memorable domain that associates you with London
