The Online Influence Conference (Oi15)

Yesterday, around 750 delegates descended on Cardiff City hall to attend the Online Influence Conference where many of the world’s biggest social and technology savvy companies were to be found exhibiting on stands and giving insightful talks about the digital space.

Brands like Google, YouTube, Twitter, Adobe and Microsoft and many others were there, sharing their knowledge of digital, social and mobile marketing in an informal atmosphere with the backing of a beautiful landmark. The event was marketed as an opportunity to come, connect, learn and be inspired and we were far from disappointed.

From the moment of arrival, the impressive building, landscaped gardens and tree-lined avenues added glamour and occasion to an insightful day. Inside the sprawling number of rooms provided all the space required for networking, breakout rooms, an exhibition hall and seminar space.

Fasthosts were there attending talks and manning a stand with Nominet. Together we were promoting the new uniquely Welsh domains .cymru and .wales. We had many people approaching us to say they’d already backed the domains and how excited they were to see and be a part of growing the Welsh online space.

The variety of talks was remarkable, with tangible action points including:

  • Learning how to prepare and execute successful campaigns- including social media, digital and mobile marketing campaigns
  • How to overcome challenges with content, communities and platforms- with case studies to reinforce the points and back up the theory
  • Measuring your efforts – the latest tools were showcased so delegates could see how they can make the most of them and the importance of feeding the insights back into their business
  • The importance of regular networking. This was reinforced throughout the day with regular coffee breaks, lunch and the obligatory post- conference drinks (where Rhys from Goldie Lookin Chain was DJing)

It truly was a great day. Edwina Hart, Economy Minister for Wales said she was “delighted the Oi Conference has attracted such a high profile list of speakers from globally recognized brands which presents a great opportunity for businesses in Wales to learn more from these experts- and promote what Wales has to offer companies in terms of a great business location.”

Following the growth of the event from last year to this, it’ll be interesting to see how much the conference grows in 2016. Keep your eyes peeled for more information- we’re looking forward to it already!

And if you are still considering one of the new Welsh domains – .wales and .cymru – but haven’t yet secured it, check the availability now, hurry don’t miss out!
