Join the rush to make the web more Welsh
Up until now, businesses and consumers haven’t had the option of a dedicated Welsh web address. However, that’s all changing with the launch of .cymru and .wales domains. Businesses, organisations, individuals and anyone who wants to address the Welsh market now have a whole new way of standing out from the crowd and promoting their Welsh identity.
Research shows that 70% of Welsh consumers have expressed a preference for .cymru and .wales over other popular domains such as .com, so it’s clear that there is a real passion for making the web more Welsh.
Portmeirion were one of the first Welsh tourist attractions to make the switch to a .cymru domain, alongside the Welsh Government and the National Assembly. The National Eisteddfod confirmed in Llanelli this summer that it will adopt the new domain names and the same decision has also been taken by S4C, the Royal Welsh Show, Urdd Gobaith Cymru, Merched y Wawr, WRU, the Welsh Language Commissioner, Mudiad Meithrin and a number of others.
The domain names offer an excellent opportunity to promote Wales to the world and we’re really excited to be able to offer businesses and organisations the chance to highlight their Welsh connections online.
During the current launch phase if more than one person wants to register a particular domain then an auction will determine who will win the registration. So for those looking to create a buzz.wales, everything from the hills.wales to thevalleys.wales is now up for grabs.
From St David’s Day – 1st March 2015 all .cymru and .wales domain names will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
